WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE?

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medical practice that entails simulating certain points on the body with very fine needles, in addition to other modalities such as herbal formulas, moxibustion, cupping, and qigong (breathing techniques), and nutritional counseling.

From its inception in China more than 2,500 years ago, acupuncture has been used traditionally to prevent, diagnose and treat disease, as well as improve general health.

DO ACUPUNCTURE NEEDLES HURT?

There is little sensitivity to the insertion of acupuncture needles. Acupuncture needles are much finer than those used for injection and blood tests.

WHAT DOES ACUPUNCTURE TREAT?

The World Health Organization lists a wide variety of diseases or disorders which acupuncture therapy has been tested in controlled clinical trials.

General muscle pain, obstetrics and gynecology issues, addictions, diseases of the heart and blood vessels, digestive disorders, diseases of the respiratory system, diseases of the nervous system, and many more could be treated with acupuncture.
